2022-23 Orofacial Pain Continuum
This 5-weekend continuum is for anyone who wants to better understand TMD and Orofacial Pain, more adeptly diagnose and manage their patients suffering with TMD and Orofacial Pain, and/or discover a successful practice model for treating TMD and Orofacial Pain in general dentistry.
Clinical Application of Head, Neck, and Airway Anatomy with Dissection
Attendees will participate in an in-depth dissection of the head, neck, and airway over a two-day period. Working in two-member teams, each participant will dissect half of a cadaver head. The head, neck, and airway will be dissected to demonstrate the relationship of structures to orofacial pain conditions including TMD and sleep breathing disorders.
The LSU Nitrous Oxide Competency Course for Dentists & Hygienists
This competency course follows ADA guidelines and complies with the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry’s regulations specifying the education and training required for either a dentist or a hygienist to obtain a permit to administer nitrous oxide inhalation analgesia for dental procedures.

Moderate Sedation Review Course (Pediatric Patients Only)
This course serves as an update and review of requirements for the purpose of administering moderate oral sedation and/or IV sedation to pediatric patients. The Louisiana State Board of Dentistry requires that dentists with a permit to administer moderate sedation to pediatric patients attend a live, in-person review course once every four years.
Digital and Conventional Radiology (RAD) for the Dental Assistant
This course will provide training for auxiliary personnel in the technique of accurate intraoral dental radiography. Practical experience will be provided in radiographic technique, darkroom procedures, and mounting intraoral x-rays. The long cone paralleling technique will be emphasized. The bisecting the angle technique will be presented in theory and in practice.
Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD): An Evidence-Based Approach To Diagnosis and Management
This course focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis and clinical implications of joint and muscle disorders, and a discussion on occlusion and its relationship to TMD. Other topics include: the use of imaging in TMD diagnosis, the neurophysiology of pain, oral appliance therapy, the role of physical therapy in TMD management, pharmacology for TMD, and Botulinum Toxin therapy.

The Many Faces of Orofacial Pain: Beyond TMD
This course focuses on the advanced diagnosis and management of orofacial pain, current theory and diagnostic aids used in the differential diagnosis of craniofacial pain, and how differential diagnosis is an extremely challenging aspect of dental practice. This course also includes a discussion on cranial nerve pathology, vascular pain otalgia, salivary gland pathofunction, neuropathic pain, headaches, burning mouth syndrome, and movement disorders.
