Overview

The dental profession has long since emerged from the gold and silver restorative era. In today’s rapidly evolving arena, staying abreast of the latest in materials and products can be a tremendous challenge. This course aims to provide relevant updates for doctors seeking to stay current and understand cutting edge approaches to tooth restoration and preservation. Attendees are encouraged to come prepared with any questions they have and any clinical challenges they are facing. Dr. Hakim enjoys audience interaction and finding solutions together.

Learning Objectives

After attending this lecture, participants should be better able to:

  • Know the evolving materials in the indirect and direct restorative arenas
  • Discuss all critical delivery techniques and clinical challenges
  • Understand the advancements in adhesives and composite delivery
  • Determine when to deploy bio-active materials
  • Know the contemporary approach to: non-vital tooth restoration and crown and bridge delivery (treatment planning, preparation,impression, provisionalization, and cementation vs. bonding)
  • Use tips and tricks to improve efficiency and eliminate re-do procedures

About the Presenter

Foroud Hakim, DDS has balanced private practice and dental education for over 27 years. He is former Vice Chair of the Department of Integrated Reconstructive Dental Sciences at University of the Pacific. Dr. Hakim has lectured nationally and internationally on topics ranging from technology, esthetic dentistry, occlusion, smile design, CAD/CAM, photography, and adhesive and composite dentistry. Dr. Hakim has several publications and has authored two chapters in the 2010 text, Esthetic Dentistry in Clinical Practice from Blackwell Publishing. Dr. Hakim earned his DDS and an MBA from University of the Pacific. He is a member of OKU dental honor society and past president of the Delta Delta Chapter. He is also a fellow and graduate of the ADEA Leadership Institute class of 2007 and sits on the board of Catapult Education. 

Course Location

This course will be held at LSU School of Dentistry at 1100 Florida Avenue in New Orleans, Louisiana located in the Mid-City area of New Orleans near beautiful City Park and historic Bayou St. John. If you are staying at a downtown hotel in or near the French Quarter, the distance to the dental school is approximately five miles. If you are driving to the dental school, free parking is available in the patient and visitor parking lots located across from the dental school.

Travel Accommodations

Please make your own airline and hotel reservations as soon as possible because New Orleans is busy with many events and conventions at this time of year. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is located approximately 30-40 minutes by taxi from both downtown New Orleans and LSU School of Dentistry. For your return flight, please allow about 90 minutes for the trip to the airport and for airline check-in.

If a course is canceled, the Academy will refund the full tuition. If you cancel your registration, the Academy will refund the tuition you paid (minus an administrative cancellation fee). We must receive your written cancellation request no later than November 19, 2021 by mail, fax at (504) 941-8403, or email at CDE@lsuhsc.edu. If LSU Health New Orleans CDE receives notification of your cancellation after the specified deadline, this will result in forfeiture of your entire tuition.
