Overview

  • Does every patient need an FMX?
  • Does every patient need yearly bitewings?
  • Why are you and your team members using a 100-year-old piece of steel to assess fissure decay with a 50% sensitivity?
  • How many times a day are you guessing when you are diagnosing?

Welcome to change.

Today’s examinations utilize diagnostics that offer patients the most sensitivity/specificity so that they accurately guide decision making for every patient. Ultimately, we understand that we must not only show the patient the diagnostic findings, but we must also involve the patient in creating their own “want and need” to accept a treatment plan this is 100% desired.

Sounds simple, right? Why do less than 30% of dentists begin their treatment plans in year one?

Learning Objectives

After attending this lecture, participants should be better able to:

  • Understand why it is necessary to reformulate the initial and return care exams in their offices,
  • See why CBCTs will be in all dental practices sooner than you think,
  • Realize how Artificial Intelligence with 2D imaging can be an instant, “second opinion,”
  • Appreciate the benefits of adopting the latest in non-radiation oriented caries diagnostics, and
  • Focus on what else is here now for customizing your diagnostics in other areas within your examinations, and what’s coming soon!

About the Presenters

Lou Graham, DDS lectures on incorporating current clinical advancements through “conservative dentistry.” He emphasizes the same concepts he practices: dental health diagnosis, treatment plans for medically compromised patients, conservative treatment, cosmetic dentistry, and customized approaches to periodontal care, implants and laser dentistry. A published author in many leading national and international dental journals, he is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, Chicago Dental Society and Illinois Dental Association. Dr. Graham is a graduate of Emory Dental School and the former Dental Director of the University of Chicago’s Department of Dentistry. He enjoys providing dental care at his multi-specialty private practice group, University Dental Professionals, in Chicago. Tony Tomaro, DDS is a recognized academician and clinician, as well as an accomplished author and lecturer. His lectures focus primarily on the following concepts: comprehensive dental health exams, diagnosis, and treatment plans; conservative esthetic dentistry and materials; smile design; evaluation, diagnosis, and restoration of worn dentition; and financial success. After having a successful practice first in Grand Rapids and then in Las Vegas, Dr. Tomaro presently enjoys providing dental care in Chicago at University Dental Professionals. He is considered an expert restorative and esthetic dentist. Dr. Tomaro serves on the editorial board of national dental publications and is an independent consultant and clinical researcher for many dental manufacturers and laboratories. He was awarded an ADA lifetime membership and was past Chairman of the Nevada Dental Association.
