  • In-depth dissection of the head, neck, and airway over a two-day period
  • Emphasis on osteology, the oral cavity, the nasal cavity, the digastric triangle, and the temporomandibular joint
  • Head, neck, and airway dissected to demonstrate the relationship of structures to orofacial pain conditions including TMD and sleeping breathing disorders
  • Participants work in two-member teams, each dissecting one-half of a cadaver head

About the Presenters

Ronald C. Auvenshine, DDS, PhD

Dr. Auvenshine is the founder and director of the Orofacial Pain Clinic at DeBakey V.A. Hospital in Houston. He lectures nationally and internationally, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the Texas Dental Association. Dr. Auvenshine is Past-President of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and is a founding member of the American Board of Orofacial Pain.


M. Franklin Dolwick, DMD, PhD

Dr. Dolwick is professor and chair of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at University of Florida College of Dentistry. He also serves as director of the Hospital of Dentisry for Shands Healthcare. He was a pioneer in the development of TMJ arthrography and surgical procedures. Dr. Dolwick has published over 100 papers and co-authored four books.

 Henry A. Gremillion, DDS, MAGD

Dr. Gremillion is dean of LSU School of Dentistry. Dr. Gremillion has lectured extensively in the U.S. and abroad and has authored or co-authored over 80 scientific articles, abstracts, and book chapters in the field of orofacial pain. In recent years he has focused on recruiting dental school faculty members to address education and patient care in the area of orofacial pain.

This course also serves as the first session of the five session Orofacial Pain Continuum™. Continuum directors Drs. Gremillion, Ehrlich, Klasser, and Spencer participate in lectures throughout the continuum. The purpose of the LSU Orofacial Pain Continnum™ is to establish a new category of CE for orofacial pain that is more comprehensive than other programs yet can be completed in five weekend sessions in less than a year. The course will be held at LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry located five miles from downtown New Orleans next to historic Bayou St. John and beautiful City Park. The dental school is about twenty minutes from downtown New Orleans by taxi.

Please make your own airline and hotel reservations as soon as possible because New Orleans is busy with many events and conventions at this time of year. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is located approximately 30-40 minutes by taxi from both downtown New Orleans and LSU School of Dentistry. We anticipate the course ending at 5:00 pm on Saturday, so make your airline flight plans accordingly. For your return flight, please allow about 90 minutes for the trip to the airport and for airline check-in.

The Louisiana Academy of Continuing Dental Education, Inc. (d/b/a: LSU Health New Orleans Continuing Dental Education) reserves the right to cancel this course should circumstances warrant such action. If this course is cancelled, the Academy will refund the full tuition. If any course is cancelled, the pro rata cost of the cancelled course will be refunded to you. If you cancel your registration for this course, you will receive a refund (minus an administrative cancellation fee of 10% of the total tuition) if LSU Health New Orleans CDE receives written notice no later than May 3, 2019. Notification of cancellation received after May 3, 2019 will result in forfeiture of your entire tuition.
