The LSU OMS Review Course is a live educational activity designed specifically for oral surgery practitioners and residents who desire a comprehensive review that focuses on all phases of oral and maxillofacial surgery and advanced cosmetic maxillofacial surgery. It emphasizes critical areas of surgery with scientific support and prepares surgeons and residents for specialty examinations. All lectures stress the techniques used and the scientific justifications for those techniques. This educational activity was developed based on previous course evaluations, input from course leadership, advisory committee input, and a review of current issues and needs in the fields of oral and maxillofacial surgery and cosmetic maxillofacial surgery.


At the conclusion of this comprehensive, six-day activity, participants should be able to identify, define, understand, and discuss the following areas of OMS and cosmetic maxillofacial surgery: preprosthetic surgery; dental implants; distraction osteogenesis principles; the medical risk patient; TMJ; mandibular and maxillary fractures; facial skin rejuvenation; dentofacial deformities; oral and maxillofacial infectious diseases; dentoalveolar surgery; maxillary and mandibular reconstruction; blepharoplasty and upper and lower facial rejuvenation; rhinoplasty and otoplasty; the trauma patient; soft tissue injuries; obstructive sleep apnea; craniofacial syndromes; anesthesia; orthognathic/ cosmetic surgery; the cleft lip and palate patient; and oral, head and neck pathology.

CDE credit awarded for participation in LSU's OMS Review Course and LSU's Advanced Cosmetic Maxillofacial Surgery Course may not apply toward license renewal in all states or meet the  requirements of other governing bodies. It is the responsibility of each oral surgeon to verify the requirements of his or her state or governmental licensing board. LSU Continuing Dental Education is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY: The Louisiana Academy of Continuing Dental Education, Inc./LSU Continuing Dental Education reserves the right to cancel any course should circumstances warrant such action. In the event a course is cancelled or filled, the Academy will either refund the full tuition or apply the tuition to the next course of your choice. If you must cancel your registration for a course, the Academy will apply the tuition you paid (minus an administrative fee) to the next course of your choice if the Academy receives written notification of your withdrawal fifteen (15) working days prior to a lecture course or thirty (30) days prior to a participation course. Notification of withdrawal received after a course begins will result in forfeiture of the entire tuition.
