Overview
The current prescription opioid abuse epidemic has dramatically affected both patients and their healthcare providers. As Louisiana averages 122 opioid prescriptions per 100 people, dental professionals are now challenged with balancing humane treatment of pain with opioid addiction risk. This continuing education course will provide dental providers with an overview of opioid use disorder symptoms, screening tools, and referral options. The goal of this course is to equip oral health care providers with the confidence and critical information needed to help combat this urgent crisis while still providing an optimum level of care for dental patients, a population that heavily relies on effective pain management.
